A Fine Balance: Consumer access to safe, locally-produced and processed food

Is there a point at which the regulations that ensure the safety of our food impede the ability of consumers to access those foods?  If so, are those impediments necessary to ensure food safety, or could there be a finer balance between safety and accessibility with regards to locally produced and processed food?  These are the questions that brought the Manitoba Branch of the Consumers’ Association of Canada (CAC Manitoba) to embark on this research, with funding from the Office of Consumer Affairs, Industry Canada.    Report
